Fifteen community organizations have been awarded a Shore Community Grant, totaling $108,810. The programs and services will take in 2023. Grants are made possible through the Wayne A. Shore Endowment Fund. All applications were reviewed by volunteer teams of local community leaders, foundation board members, and the family of Wayne A. Shore. The Shallow Ford Foundation’s board of directors approved the final grant recommendations. Grant recipients and a brief description of awarded programs and services are listed below.
American Red Cross Piedmont Chapter – Disaster relief efforts of the Red Cross in Yadkin County when needed.
Cancer Services, Inc. – Funding for the Patient Advocacy program to provide Yadkin County residents facing cancer with personalized staff assistance, accessing and securing medication, and direct financial assistance for emergency unmet cancer treatment needs.
Courtney Volunteer Fire Department – A matching grant to assist with facility upgrades serving the health and wellness of the firefighters who serve the Courtney Community.
Forbush Volunteer Fire Department – Equipment to bring the department and district to a medium-duty rescue certification.
Hands of Hope Medical Clinic – For a Spanish interpreter to provide professional and compassionate medical care for the Hispanic population served in Yadkin County.
Magnify Ministries, Inc. / Impact Yadkin – The building of multiple wheelchair ramps, roof replacement, and digging a well for a resident with little to no water.
Northwestern Regional Library – For the Trails of Tales program that will establish permanent story walks in Boonville, East Bend, Jonesville, and Yadkinville to promote physical outdoor activity, family engagement, and literacy learning.
Smart Start of Yadkin County – Sponsoring a one-day State of the Child conference with industry leaders in Yadkin County to address important issues in childcare facing the community.
Surry Community College Yadkin Center – Equipment/supplies that will support additional EMS programs at the Surry Community College Yadkin Campus.
Yadkin Arts Council, Inc. – Continuation of the Education Outreach program to provide free arts opportunities to Yadkin County Schools through the Page to Stage and Powers of Poetry programs.
Yadkin County Rescue Squad and EMS – To replace aging and outdated rope rescue equipment that is necessary to maintain heavy rescue, rope rescue, and confined space rescue operations.
Yadkin County Senior Center – For the Nutrition for Body and Mind project that will provide a nutritious hot meal for seniors that struggle with shopping and cooking meals at home.
YMCA of Northwest North Carolina – The YMCA Bridge Academy, a new initiative of the Yadkin Family YMCA, supporting programming for foster families in Yadkin County.
YVEDDI East Bend Senior Center – Decreasing social isolation and loneliness in senior adults by providing a monthly supper meal, fresh produce, and take-home activities.
YVEDDI Yadkin Valley Senior Center – For the Senior Fresh Pack program offering nutritious, no-preservative foods to seniors served by the Meals on Wheels/Adult Nutrition program.
