With the term of Prof Errol D’Souza, the director of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, ending on January 31, there are contenders from both within and outside the institute for succession. The recruitment is under the Board of Governors that has already formed a five-member search-cum-selection committee. Though the Central government has to give its final stamp on the appointment approved by the board, with Zydus Lifesciences Ltd Chairman Pankaj Patel succeeding Kumar Mangalam Birla as the board’s chairperson, speculations are rife that this change will have an impact on the appointment of new director as well.
No Hurry
The appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith on January 15 was sudden though not an unexpected move, say stakeholders outside and within the Gandhian institute in Ahmedabad. Though Senior Professor Bharat Joshi has been appointed as the in-charge VC after Dr Rajendra Khimani stepped down, the former continues to occupy his official residence on the campus. Prof Joshi is not too keen to shift to the official VC’s accommodation as he stays close to the Usmanpura area and cycles to Vidyapith everyday since long now. Dr Khimani is also not in a hurry to vacate, said an official at Vidyapith.
