The host of popular crypto channel Coin Bureau is laying out his top picks for proof-of-stake (POS) crypto assets where people can earn rewards and passive income.<\/p>\n
In a new video, the pseudonymous analyst known as Guy tells<\/a> his 1.97 million YouTube subscribers that he has weighed each of the six tokens on his list against five important criteria.<\/p>\n Those criteria include the minimum amount required to stake, the lockup\/unlock period, slashing risk when validators fail, annual interest offered and the potential of the crypto asset to rise in price over time.<\/p>\n Guy presents the six altcoins in no order of preference, with the first being layer-1 smart contract platform Avalanche<\/a> (AVAX).<\/p>\n \u201cAvalanche has proven itself to be one of the top alternatives to Ethereum\u00a0due to its implementation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which is nearly 5x faster than other EVM implementations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Next on Guy\u2019s staking watchlist is scalable interoperability network Cosmos<\/a> (ATOM).<\/p>\n \u201cCosmos uses a novel proof-of-stake mechanism called Tendermint, which allows its blockchain to process up to 10,000 transactions per second.<\/em><\/p>\n Cosmos staking rewards are currently around 15% per year for delegators who must lock up their ATOM for 21 days. There\u2019s no minimum stake, slashing penalties are minimal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The third token on Guy\u2019s radar is scalable decentralized blockchain platform Cardano<\/a> (ADA). Its novel POS consensus mechanism Ouroboros is able to process several hundred transactions per second (TPS).<\/p>\n \u201cCardano\u2019s staking rewards are currently 5% per year, which is on the lower end of the staking rewards spectrum but comes with some seriously attractive trade-offs.<\/em><\/p>\n There\u2019s no minimum stake for delegators, there\u2019s no lockup or unlock period for any staked ADA, and there is no risk of slashing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Coin Bureau host next looks at enterprise-grade blockchain platform Fantom<\/a> (FTM).<\/p>\n \u201cThe main reason why I hold FTM is because Fantom has some of the best developers in cryptocurrency.<\/em><\/p>\n Fantom is also one of the few crypto projects that has secured some serious partnerships with governments and public institutions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The host next says he likes Harmony<\/a> (ONE) because it\u2019s an Ethereum<\/a> (ETH) competitor which has \u201cfaced fierce competition from the likes of Avalanche, Fantom, and Ethereum itself.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHarmony has the most room to grow of any cryptocurrency on this list.<\/em><\/p>\n Unfortunately, the price history for ONE doesn\u2019t look nearly as pretty as other altcoins in the top 100, but it remains in a relatively long-term uptrend.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The sixth and final top staking digital asset Guy mentions is the open-source, decentralized blockchain network Algorand<\/a> (ALGO).<\/p>\n Its POS consensus mechanism can handle approximately 1000 TPS, offering 3% rewards but with no requirements on the part of stakers.<\/p>\n \u201cThis staking reward can be increased to almost 10% per year if you participate in Algorand\u2019s governance process. Note that this percentage changes depending on various parameters.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
