QUINCY (WGEM) – Quincy University has joined the ranks of those helping make cryptocurrency more mainstream. The school announced Monday it will now accept donations in the form of digital currency.<\/p>\n
Advancement Senior Director Matt Bergman said they want to give donors the option since its tax-deductible, fast and secure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are always constantly watching the market and constantly watching what\u2019s going on in the world with respect to how donors might interact with us,\u201d Bergman said. \u201cAnd, seeing that more and more people were purchasing cryptocurrency and getting into that digital currency market, it was only going to be a matter of time when a donor came to us and said, \u2018Hey. I want to make a gift in cryptocurrency.\u2019 And we want to be ready and able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bergman said he wouldn\u2019t be surprised if QU takes cryptocurrency to the next level down the road by accepting digital currency for tuition.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe aren\u2019t equipped for taking it for other things yet, (but) I could easily see families paying tuition bills, or room and board bills,\u201d Bergman said.<\/p>\n
They are now accepting 32 types of cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin.<\/p>\n
Donations get to QU\u2019s bank account within minutes, allowing the university to use the money for the school\u2019s latest needs.<\/p>\n
