Litecoin<\/strong>\u00a0(CRYPTO: LTC<\/a>) creator Charlie Lee<\/strong> praised Elon Musk<\/strong> and the world’s first memecoin\u00a0Dogecoin<\/strong>\u00a0(CRYPTO: DOGE<\/a>) for their contributions to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.<\/p>\n What Happened:<\/strong>\u00a0Lee said during a recent interview that Dogecoin \u2014 which he described as \u201cgreat\u201d and \u201cpretty fun” \u2014 drove mainstream adoption of crypto.<\/p>\n Musk played a role in making cryptocurrencies “a mainstream topic,” Lee said, according to a Wednesday FXEmpire\u00a0report<\/a>.<\/p>\n Musk brought cryptocurrencies into the spotlight of mainstream media after he lead his electric car manufacturer\u00a0Tesla Inc.<\/strong>\u00a0(NASDAQ:TSLA<\/a>) to accept\u00a0Bitcoin<\/strong>\u00a0(CRYPTO: BTC<\/a>) as means of payment for its cars in 2021 and then decided to stop accepting it over environmental concerns soon thereafter.<\/p>\n While he\u00a0suggested<\/a>\u00a0that Tesla may start accepting Bitcoin again in the future, the company also acquired $1.5 billion in\u00a0Bitcoin and sold<\/a>\u00a0$272 million of the cryptocurrency.\u00a0<\/p>\n Musk is also arguably Dogecoin’s most notable fan; he frequently tweets about the coin and once even\u00a0promoted<\/a>\u00a0it on Saturday Night Live. At the end of January, he\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0at the official\u00a0McDonald’s Corp.<\/strong>\u00a0(NYSE:MCD<\/a>) that he would eat a happy meal on TV\u00a0if the fast-food chain were to start accepting Dogecoin. The company answered that it would only comply if Tesla accepts \u201cgrimacecoin\u201d \u2014 a fake coin depicting the McDonaldland mascot Grimace.<\/p>\n Crypto scammers were quick to act and soon thereafter the crypto community saw the creation of\u00a0Grimacecoin\u00a0<\/strong>(CRYPTO: GRIMACE) on the\u00a0Binance Smart Chain<\/strong>\u00a0(CRYPTO: BNB<\/a>), which then\u00a0skyrocketed<\/a>\u00a0285,000% in under 24 hours.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
