{"id":6651,"date":"2022-02-01T23:24:05","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T23:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=6651"},"modified":"2022-02-01T23:24:05","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T23:24:05","slug":"alphabet-ceo-says-company-definitely-looking-at-blockchain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=6651","title":{"rendered":"Alphabet CEO Says Company \u2018Definitely\u2019 Looking at Blockchain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"highlights-block_61f99ef2ea65f\" class=\"highlights\">\n<ul>\n<li>The company\u2019s cloud services department is looking at how to integrate blockchain technology<\/li>\n<li>YouTube and Google Maps could employ Web3 elements, Alphabet\u2019s CEO said<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, is looking at how to build blockchain technologies into its blockbuster services, executives said on a Tuesday earnings call.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to an analyst question on how the company views Web3, CEO Sundar Pichai said there are several \u201careas of interest\u201d for Alphabet: augmented reality, for one, as well as looking at how blockchain technology can be used to power computing and services layers for the likes of YouTube and Google Maps.<\/p>\n<p>The company is \u201cdefinitely looking at blockchain,\u201d Pichai said, calling it \u201can interesting and powerful technology with broad applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alphabet\u2019s cloud team \u2014 an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/google-creates-blockchain-unit-hires-new-founding-leader\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emerging<\/a> part of its business that competes with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft \u2014 is looking at how to \u201csupport customer needs\u201d via blockchain-based <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/google-cloud-hiring-blockchain-specialists-in-bid-to-drive-decentralization-efforts\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">platforms<\/a>, according to Pichai. That seemingly could be applied in employing blockchain tech to organize customer service requests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He did not provide further specifics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnytime there\u2019s innovation, I find it exciting, and I think it is something we want to support the best we can,\u201d Pichai said. \u201cThe web has always evolved, and it\u2019s going to continue to evolve, and as Google, we have benefited tremendously from open-source technologies, so we do plan to contribute there.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abc.xyz\/investor\/static\/pdf\/2021Q4_alphabet_earnings_release.pdf?cache=d72fc76\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earnings<\/a> exceeded analyst expectations, with fourth-quarter revenue of $75.33 billion, an increase of 32% from the same period a year prior.
