OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has called Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) a \u201csuper logical\u201d step on the tech tree, which is free of government control and helps to fight corruption.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m excited about Bitcoin,\u201d Altman told<\/a> Joe Rogan during an Oct. 6 episode of\u00a0The Joe Rogan Experience <\/em>podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cI think this idea that we have a global currency that is outside of the control of any government is a super logical and important step on the tech tree.\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The OpenAI boss\u2019s wide-ranging interview with Rogan covered his thoughts on Bitcoin as a world reserve currency and his concerns about central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).<\/p>\n Altman, who is also the founder of Worldcoin, said the shift to a \u201ctechnologically enabled world,\u201d including Bitcoin, could help reduce corruption. <\/p>\n Creator of ChatGPT, Sam Altman says, \u201c#Bitcoin<\/a> is a super logical and important step on the technology tree\u201d of humanity. pic.twitter.com\/2DGDzxIRrm<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Documenting \u20bfitcoin (@DocumentingBTC) October 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cOne of the things that I\u2019ve observed \u2014 obviously many other people too \u2014 is corruption is such an incredible hindrance to getting anything done in a society to make it forward progress,\u201d said Altman. <\/p>\n \u201cBut in a world where payments, for example, are no longer like bags of cash but done somehow digitally and somebody, even if you\u2019re using Bitcoin, can like watch those flows,\u201d he said, adding:<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s like a corruption-reducing thing.\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Meanwhile, Rogan expressed his own optimism for Bitcoin despite skepticism of the wider cryptocurrency industry, saying he believes it can become a \u201cuniversal viable currency.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe real fascinating crypto is Bitcoin. To me, that\u2019s the one that I think has the most likely possibility of becoming a universal viable currency. It\u2019s limited in the amount that there can be [and] people mine it with their own [computer].\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cThat to me is very fascinating. In a blog post dated 10 years ago, Altman argued<\/a> that a world transacting in Bitcoin would be more transparent. <\/p>\n \u201cA world where we all transact in Bitcoin would be much more transparent, and financial transparency is great. It\u2019s perhaps the thing that would most reduce corruption,\u201d Altman said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, both Altman and Rogan said they were \u201csuper against\u201d CBDCs and expressed worry about the United States becoming a surveillance state.<\/p>\n Rogan argued that CBDCs could give governments even more control<\/a> over how people spend their money:<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m very worried about central bank digital currency and that being tied to a social credit score. That scares the shit out of me.
