{"id":46696,"date":"2023-03-20T08:52:58","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T08:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=46696"},"modified":"2023-03-20T08:52:58","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T08:52:58","slug":"beware-of-fake-arbitrum-airdrops-community-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=46696","title":{"rendered":"Beware of fake Arbitrum Airdrops, community warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-v-48054ca8=\"\">\n<p>Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Arbitrum&#8217;s upcoming &#8220;ARB&#8221; token Airdrop appears to have become a popular target for scammers, with the community warning of hundreds of phishing scams aimed at tricking crypto users.<\/p>\n<p>Announced in a March 16 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/arbitrumfoundation.medium.com\/arbitrum-the-next-phase-of-decentralization-e7f8b37b5226\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">post<\/a>\u00a0by the Arbitrum Foundation, the airdrop will send out 10 billion governance tokens via a token airdrop, allowing holders to vote on code changes. The airdrop is set for March 23.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the development has led to more than a few attempts from scammers to set up<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/300-000-stolen-by-fake-blur-airdrop-websites-data\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/300-000-stolen-by-fake-blur-airdrop-websites-data\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\"> fake token airdrops<\/a> aimed at stealing funds from victims ahead of the officially slated event.<\/p>\n<p>Blockchain security company Redefine in a March 19 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redefine_crypto\/status\/1637505764469223424\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">post<\/a>\u00a0said it found a website impersonating an official Arbitrum airdrop website. The screenshots show a user is asked by the website to allow access to their funds, which would presumably result in the scammers draining th wallet. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/3b9eaab6-4493-4a0d-97e9-f0efeb2cd353.jpg\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Blockchain security company Redefine has found several websites impersonating official Arbitrum airdrop website. Source: Redefine<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-scammers-are-using-black-market-identities-to-avoid-detection-certik\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/crypto-scammers-are-using-black-market-identities-to-avoid-detection-certik\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">CertiK, another blockchain security firm<\/a> pointed to a fake Arbitrum Twitter account with the user name \u201c@arbitrum_launch\u201d \u2014 which is advertising a token Airdrop. It has warned users not to interact with it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CertiKSkynetAlert?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">#CertiKSkynetAlert<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Be aware of a fake <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arbitrum?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">@arbitrum<\/a> Twitter account which is advertising a token Airdrop.<\/p>\n<p>Do not interact with this Airdrop. <\/p>\n<p>Always verify Twitter accounts and URLs from trusted sources.<\/p>\n<p>Stay vigilant! <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gTlSNRzd6l\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/gTlSNRzd6l<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CertiK Alert (@CertiKAlert) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CertiKAlert\/status\/1637518648012095489?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">March 19, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, Reddit user CryptoMaximalist posted a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CryptoCurrency\/comments\/11vvp9z\/scam_warning_we_have_seen_dozens_of_arbitrum\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">thread<\/a> on March 19, warning that &#8220;scammers are hoping to capitalize on the complexity of crypto and users excited for free money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to CryptoMaximalist, they found fake &#8220;Arbitrum&#8221; Twitter profiles with links to fake Arbitrum websites, advising everyone to check a user&#8217;s profile and history, and check if they are spamming links across many subreddits before clicking on shared links.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Web3 anti-scam tool Scam Sniffer told its Twitter followers that it had already <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realScamSniffer\/status\/1636586072338735105\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">detected<\/a> more than 273 phishing sites related to Arbitrum since the token airdrop was announced, with the number expected to rise before the official drop on March 23. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gm, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24ARB&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">$ARB<\/a> airdrop holders! &#x2600;&#xfe0f;<\/p>\n<p>We found a lot of scam accounts calling you to claim airdrop!
