The delay was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GNhrb5txJ4M\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announced<\/a> at an Ethereum developer meeting on Mar. 2.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, core developers came to the consensus that the hard fork would occur about a fortnight after the Goerli testnet launch, which has been slated for Mar. 14. The Goerli testnet will be the final dress rehearsal for the Shanghai hard fork before it is rolled out on the mainnet. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So looks like Goerli testnet is getting upgraded to Shapella<\/p>\n<p>Epoch: 162304<br \/>Time: 3\/14\/2023, 10:25:36 PM UTC<\/p>\n<p>See ya on the other side!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 terence.eth (@terencechain) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/terencechain\/status\/1631397911652372481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ethereum core developer and project coordinator, Tim Beiko, said \u201cfor mainnet we usually want to give people at least two weeks after the announcement,\u201d before adding, \u201cso imagine Goerli happens on the 14th, everything goes well, on the 16th we agree to move forward with mainnet \u2014 I think the earliest that puts us is like the first week of April.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beiko noted in a Twitter thread on Mar. 2 that they did not agree to a mainnet date explicitly, but they will &#8220;probably&#8221; set a date during the next developers meeting on Mar. 16, &#8220;assuming things go well on Goerli.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We didn&#8217;t agree to a mainnet date explicitly, but assuming things go well on Goerli, we&#8217;d probably set a date on the next ACDE (Mar 16).<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 timbeiko.eth (@TimBeiko) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimBeiko\/status\/1631373281650708481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Shanghai Capella (also dubbed Shapella) upgrade to Goerli will be the last chance for Ethereum clients and staking providers to ensure the Shanghai hard fork can go through smoothly when it launches on the mainnet.<\/p>\n<p>The long-awaited<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ethereum-s-shanghai-fork-is-coming-but-it-doesn-t-mean-investors-should-dump-eth\" rel=\"noopener\"> Shanghai mainnet upgrade<\/a> will allow the phased withdrawal of Ethereum staked from the Beacon Chain.<\/p>\n<p>To maintain network stability and security, ETH withdrawals will be dynamic and dependent on how many validators there are exiting at the time. Validators must undergo a two-stage process involving an exit queue and a withdrawal period so it will happen gradually over time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Execution Layer Meeting 156 [2023-03-02]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GNhrb5txJ4M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>There are currently 17.1 million ETH<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/beaconcha.in\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> staked<\/a> on the Beacon Chain representing just over 14% of the entire supply.
