Azuki, a popular nonfungible token (NFT) project, had its Twitter account compromised on Jan. 27, leading to hackers stealing over $750,000 worth of USD Coin\u00a0(USDC<\/a>)\u00a0by posting a malicious \u201cwallet drainer link\u201d posing as a virtual land mint.<\/p>\n Hackers stole $751,321.80 in USDC\u00a0from a single wallet within half an hour of the malicious links being tweeted, according<\/a> to Etherscan data provided to Cointelegraph by crypto wallet security firm Wallet Guard.<\/p>\n The data also revealed that hackers stole a further $6,752.62 worth of USDC from various wallets<\/a> holding 11 NFTs and over 3.9 Ether (ETH<\/a>).<\/p>\n Wallet Guard stated that the total amount stolen was $758,074.42.<\/p>\n Emily Rose, community manager for the anime-inspired NFT project, confirmed via Twitter on Jan. 27 that the Azuki account was hacked, warning users not to click any links from Azuki\u2019s Twitter account.<\/p>\n AZUKI OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT IS HACKED.<\/p>\n DO NOT CLICK LINKS FROM OUR ACCOUNT.<\/p>\n PLEASE RETWEET.<\/p>\n \u2014 Rose | | ⛩️NGL (@emilyrosemcg) January 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Azuki\u2019s head of community and product manager, Dem, explained<\/a> on a Twitter Space hosted by Wallet Guard on Jan. 27 that scammers were able to \u201cpost a wallet drainer link\u201d after gaining control of Azuki’s Twitter account.<\/p>\n Dem urged users to \u201cstay safe and stay suspicious\u201d while the team attempted to regain control of the account<\/a>. <\/p>\n Several hours later Azuki stated that it had regained control of its Twitter account via a tweet:<\/p>\n 1\/ The @AzukiOfficial<\/a> Twitter was compromised today. It\u2019s better to be paranoid in Web3 than not.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Upon Azuki regaining control of the account, it emphasized to its followers in a tweet<\/a> to always \u201cgo out on several channels\u201d to confirm announcements.<\/p>\n It also noted to reach out to the Azuki \u201cmod team\u201d on Discord when in doubt.<\/p>\n This news comes after stock trading platform Robinhood\u2019s Twitter account was compromised<\/a> on Jan. 25.<\/p>\n The hackers pushed Robinhood\u2019s followers to each pay $0.0005 for a token called \u201cRBH\u201d on the BNB Smart Chain.<\/p>\n Conor Grogan, the head of product business operations at Coinbase,\u00a0tweeted<\/a> that at least 10 people had purchased approximately $1,000 worth of the scam token before the tweet was removed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
