No centralized, single actor is going to initiate it. Validators of the network have to update their nodes prior to the indicated block, and they are already doing so.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>87% of the 15 voters of the Polygon Governance Team voted in favor of increasing the BaseFeeChangeDenominator function from 8 to 16 to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ethereum-eip-1559-upgrade-launches-on-polygon-to-burn-matic\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ethereum-eip-1559-upgrade-launches-on-polygon-to-burn-matic\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">reduce gas fee spikes<\/a> and to decrease the SprintLength function from 64 blocks to 16 in order to fix the chain reorganization problem.<\/p>\n<p>In addressing the gas spike issue, the Polygon Team explained that because the base fee price often \u201cexperiences exponential spikes\u201d when on-chain activity increases rapidly, by increasing the denominator from 8 to 16, they believe \u201cthe growth curve can be flattened\u201d and thus \u201csmooth severe fluctuations\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/polygon-zero-knowledge-evm-rollup-aims-cheaper-web3-transactions\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/polygon-zero-knowledge-evm-rollup-aims-cheaper-web3-transactions\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">in gas prices.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-01\/5908e0a8-a716-42a1-a0b5-30fc20e23b05.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Recent gas price spikes on the Polygon PoS chain (blue) compared with Polygon\u2019s data-driven expectations post hard fork (red).
