Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog behind the face of Dogecoin (DOGE<\/a>) and the \u201cdoge\u201d meme is in a \u201cdangerous position\u201d healthwise, according to her owner.<\/p>\n In a Dec. 26 Instagram post<\/a> that was then shared on Twitter, Atsuko Sat\u014d, a Japanese kindergarten teacher and Kabosu\u2019s owner, said in Japanese that the rescue dog was in a “dangerous” state, but assured her followers that the canine will be \u201cabsolutely fine\u201d and is \u201cgetting power from all over the world\u201d from supporters.<\/p>\n The news brought an outpouring of support. One Twitter user sending well wishes offered<\/a> to fully cover \u201cany expenses needed to make sure she gets the best treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n The co-creator of Dogecoin, Billy Markus,\u00a0 asked his two million followers in a Dec. 26 tweet to send \u201c[love] and [prayers] and good vibes\u201d to Sat\u014d and Kabosu.<\/p>\n doge (kabosu) is sick \ud83d\ude41 please send her and @kabosumama<\/a> your ❤️ and and good vibes ~ pic.twitter.com\/8IqnYWFhWN<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Shibetoshi Nakamoto (@BillyM2k) December 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Sat\u014d didn\u2019t disclose what health complications Kabosu is facing, but in an earlier post said that Kabosu has been sick since Christmas Eve, refusing to eat or drink. <\/p>\n It should be noted that Shiba Inu dogs have an average life expectancy of between 12 to 15 years and Kabosu celebrated her 17th birthday earlier in 2022.<\/p>\n A picture of Kabosu from Sat\u014d\u2019s blog<\/a> in 2010 inspired the viral \u201cdoge\u201d meme format.<\/p>\n Eventually, the popularity of the meme sparked the 2013 creation by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer of what\u2019s considered the first \u201cmeme coin,\u201d Dogecoin<\/a>, which the pair said they created as a joke.<\/p>\n Kabosu is a popular figure in the crypto world, with Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin also visiting Kabosu and Sat\u014d in their Tokyo apartment in 2018.<\/p>\n Despite being created as a joke, Dogecoin remains hugely popular within the crypto world nearly 10 years after it was first created.\u00a0<\/p>\n DOGE is the 8th largest coin with its nearly $10.4 billion market capitalization according to CoinGecko data<\/a> and saw a volume of over $332 million in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n Related: <\/em><\/strong>Turkey has an obsession with crypto \u2014 Specifically Dogecoin: Study<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Dogecoin was the second-most searched crypto<\/a> on Google behind Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>), averaging 5.85 million monthly worldwide searches in 2022.<\/p>\n Elon Musk\u2019s takeover of Twitter had many Dogecoin users hopeful that he would integrate DOGE<\/a> on the social media platform causing the price to rally<\/a> on the news.<\/p>\n Musk has been a longstanding proponent of Dogecoin and at one point, before admitting it wouldn\u2019t be feasible, planned to charge<\/a> Twitter users 0.1 DOGE to post on the platform in a bid to cut down on scam posts.<\/p>\n Dogecoin has sparked a variety of similar dog-themed cryptocurrencies such as Shiba Inu (SHIB<\/a>), Dogelon Mars (ELON), and Floki (FLOKI), which was inspired by Musk\u2019s Shiba Inu, Floki.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n![](\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-12\/39ef8c08-f37b-4b9d-a040-dd3f70b81dba.png\")
