Investors appear to be moving away from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/defi-101\/defi-a-comprehensive-guide-to-decentralized-finance\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/defi-101\/defi-a-comprehensive-guide-to-decentralized-finance\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">decentralized finance (DeFi)<\/a> and into Web3.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The crypto industry tends to have a problem with overusing buzzwords, like the way \u201cDeFi\u201d was everywhere just a couple of years ago. In 2022, it seems like every new startup and established blockchain company alike is taking up the \u201cWeb3\u201d mantle. But what exactly is Web3? <\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph Research delved into the matter in its recently released <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/research.cointelegraph.com\/reports\/detail\/venture-capital-report-q3-2022\" rel=\"noopener\">Q3 2022 Venture Capital Report<\/a>. To further understand the subject, it held a panel discussion with venture capitalist investors to find out how they see Web3.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How can crypto startups survive the bear market?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gDMxZhsR3E4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2>Web3: The newest buzzword\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The panel was asked whether the term Web3 is overused or the next big thing. Tim Draper, founder of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe media is capturing people\u2019s imagination, and they\u2019re kind of going, \u2018Web3! We got a new thing coming!\u2019 And what it does is it forced me \u2014 and I\u2019m sure it\u2019s forcing entrepreneurs everywhere \u2014 to think, \u2018Okay, with Web3, what can I do?\u2019 And so, all of a sudden, they\u2019re getting more creative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Draper provided his insights into the current state of the crypto industry and his thoughts on Web3. Also on the panel was Smiyet Belrhiti, managing partner at Keychain Ventures, which provides Web3 and blockchain investment opportunities to funds. Rounding out the panel was Julian Liniger, co-founder and CEO of Relai, a Bitcoin (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a>) application.<\/p>\n<p>On the bearish sentiment currently expressed by venture capitalists, Draper said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestors always get it wrong. They come in when it\u2019s just hyped up and everything\u2019s great, and then the venture capitalists all have to compete with each other.
