Alec’s emceeing stint at the ceremony comes after he accidentally shot the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his western film Rust, which he is producing and starring in.

Although her death is still being investigated, Baldwin and his fellow producers on the project have already settled a wrongful death lawsuit from Hutchins’ widower, which will lead to him being added as a producer on the film.

In an interview with Extra from Monday, Hilaria revealed how her difficult conversation about the shooting went with her two oldest children: Carmen, nine, and Rafael, seven.

‘There is no way that you can explain this because it is awful. It’s awful!’ she said of the shooting. ‘I thought I was going to do this without Alec and he said, “No, I can’t be a coward. I have to be there.”‘

The knowledge of the terrible event was difficult for the couple’s oldest daughter to handle.

‘And then when I tell them… Carmen started saying to me, “Why are you telling me this?”… She said, “I want to un-know this,”‘ Hilaria recounted.

‘We can go forward and talk about gun safety on sets, and try to figure out how this crazy thing happened, and we can go forward and honor Halyna,’ Hilaria added.

‘We can remember her, continuing her legacy for her, for her family and we can take care of everybody who’s still here who is extraordinarily damaged by this awful tragedy. That’s all that we can do, but we can’t un-know it.’

She also added that she worried about how her husband was handling the knowledge of his involvement in Hutchins’ death.

‘I worry about him… I mean, can you imagine? Nobody can. There was so much confusion to understand what had happened,’ she said.

However, Baldwin seemed to be getting by as he put on a cheerful face at the ceremony.
