{"id":33228,"date":"2022-10-26T21:40:18","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=33228"},"modified":"2022-10-26T21:40:18","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:40:18","slug":"bitcoin-analysts-map-out-the-key-bull-and-bear-cases-for-btcs-price-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=33228","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin analysts map out the key bull and bear cases for BTC\u2019s price action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-v-4b69a2fe=\"\">\n<p>Research has detailed Bitcoin\u2019s recent record-low volatility and while traders expect an eventual price breakout, the Oct. 26 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a> price move to $21,000 is not yet being interpreted as confirmation that $20,000 has now become support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a recent \u201cThe Week On-chain Newsletter,\u201d Glassnode analysts mapped out a bull case and a bear case for BTC. <\/p>\n<p>According to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/insights.glassnode.com\/the-week-onchain-week-43-2022\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">report<\/a>, the bear case includes limited on-chain transaction activity, stagnant non-zero address growth and reduced miner profits present a strong Bitcoin sell-off risk but data also shows that long-term hodlers are more determined than ever to weather the current bear market. <\/p>\n<p>The bull case, on the other hand, entails an increase in whale wallets, outflow from centralized exchanges and hodling by longer term investors.<\/p>\n<h2>Stalled new address growth<\/h2>\n<p>On-chain active address growth remains stagnant across the BTC network. A reduction in transactions translates to a decrease in utilization and user growth for the network, factors which could possibly hinder BTC price expansion. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-10\/d15cf200-b743-4047-8d2a-535f09b4cc49.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin transactions of active addresses versus Bitcoin\u2019s price. Source: Glassnode<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New addresses within the Bitcoin ecosystem that possess a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/this-bitcoin-long-term-holder-metric-is-nearing-the-btc-price-bottom-zone\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/this-bitcoin-long-term-holder-metric-is-nearing-the-btc-price-bottom-zone\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">non-zero address <\/a>have also plateaued, a trend which also occurred in November 2018. However, since the onset of the bear market, many miners are selling BTC in order to cover their capital costs and operational expenses.<\/p>\n<p>With <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sub-20k-bitcoin-price-puts-btc-miner-profits-under-pressure-as-hash-rate-soars\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sub-20k-bitcoin-price-puts-btc-miner-profits-under-pressure-as-hash-rate-soars\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC mining production costs are rising<\/a> amid a backdrop of falling revenues, miners are deleveraging by selling their newly mined BTC. Glassnode warned that that the current: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDeleveraging events of miners may lead to distribution into thin order books, historically light demand, and persistent macroeconomic uncertainty and liquidity constraints.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As the price of BTC drops and miners\u2019 profitability shrinks, miners may be forced to liquidate more of their reserve Bitcoin holdings. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-10\/7be258b1-1d67-4790-8697-cbb7e43a9a69.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin balance in miner wallets. Source: Glassnode<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Whales are accumulating<\/h2>\n<p>In spite of the falling BTC prices many BTC whales that hold an excess of 10,000 BTC are possibly increasing their holdings even in bear market conditions. As shown in the chart below, they continue to accumulate BTC after distributing in April and September. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-10\/c86aa4f0-655c-4037-976f-0a7b651c7646.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin accumulation trend chart. Source: Glassnode<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>BTC withdrawals from centralized exchange could reduce sell pressure<\/h2>\n<p>Funds moved from centralized exchanges weakens<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/740m-in-bitcoin-exits-exchanges-the-biggest-outflow-since-june-s-btc-price-crash\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/740m-in-bitcoin-exits-exchanges-the-biggest-outflow-since-june-s-btc-price-crash\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\"> immediate selling pressure<\/a> on the market. Coinbase, one of the highest volume centralized exchanges, is seeing large amounts of BTC withdraws. When comparing the current BTC outflow from Coinbase to the post-March 2020 peak at the exchange, over 48% of the total BTC at the exchange has been transferred out. <\/p>\n<p>Glassnode points out that: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCoinbase has seen a very large-scale net withdrawal of -41.6k BTC this week&#8230; It is important to note that these outflows are based on our best estimated wallet clusters, and appear to be a combination of coins flowing into both investor wallets, and\/or institutional grade custody solutions.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-10\/37657bea-7a19-47bd-923c-a1d728cfa17d.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin balance on Coinbase. Source: Glassnode<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Hodlers keep hodling<\/h2>\n<p>According to the Realized Cap HODL Waves metric, the total USD wealth held in BTC, valued at the time of each coin&#8217;s last transaction, is now disproportionately skewed to longer-term holders. The proportion of wealth held in coins that moved in the last 3-months is now at an all-time-low. The reciprocal observation is that wealth held by coins older than 3-months (increasingly held by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/tags\/hodl\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/tags\/hodl\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">Hodlers<\/a>) is now at an all-time-high.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-10\/ddb77cc8-714a-411d-b7c7-c25d46cace59.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin HODL Waves.
