Seasoned trader and creator of the Bollinger Bands technical indicator, John Bollinger, believes that a once-promising trade setup on Litecoin (LTC<\/a>) is on the verge of fizzling out without a payoff.<\/p>\n

The trader tells<\/a> his 226,300 Twitter followers that after Litecoin\u2019s \u201cprolonged squeeze\u201d as depicted on the Bollinger Bands indicator, the 22nd-largest crypto asset by market cap risks fizzling out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why I don\u2019t love prolonged squeezes, nice setups often just fizzle out. LTC\/USD.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

A Bollinger Band squeeze happens when the price volatility of an asset drops to low levels and the lower and upper bands of the technical indicator constrict. Typically, such squeezes foreshadow breakouts.<\/p>\n

According to Bollinger, prolonged squeezes are not<\/a> as effective as the average squeeze setup.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not that prolonged Squeezes don\u2019t work, it is just that they don\u2019t work as well as my preferred setup, Squeeze and GO!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Since June Litecoin has ranged between a high of about $67 and a low of $46. Litecoin is trading at $51.16 at time of writing.<\/p>\n

About a week ago, Bollinger warned<\/a> that Litecoin was potentially foreshadowing a head fake out on the daily chart.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeveloping: Litecoin looks like it is setting up for a Head Fake out of a Bollinger Band Squeeze.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

A head fake-out occurs when the price of an asset moves in a certain direction but then makes a reversal and turns in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n

Prodded by a follower who claims that the reason for Litecoin\u2019s long stay in a narrow range is purely fundamental as LTC \u201clost any real relevance\u201d after the emergence of Ethereum (ETH<\/a>), Bollinger says<\/a> that both Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) and Ethereum are also trading in a range.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin is trading at $19,188 at time of writing while Ethereum is exchanging hands at $1,299.<\/p>\n
