This week\u2019s guest on the <\/span>Cardano SPO Column <\/b>is a stake pool <\/span>operated by Rick, who is a solo operator originally from South Africa now living in London<\/b>: <\/span>Stake ADA Pool [RCADA]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Last week\u2019s guest<\/span><\/a> was a stake pool <\/span>operated by Michele who is working on a project called \u201cplu-ts\u201d, which will allow developers to build dApps using Typescript.<\/b><\/p>\n This initiative is a point of reference for everything Cardano and every week or two we will invite a <\/span>Stake Pool Operator <\/b>(SPO) to answer some questions and give us an <\/span>update directly from within the Cardano community<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n Considering that many of our readers are new to the crypto space<\/span>, <\/b>we will have a <\/span>mix of simple and technical questions<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n Hi, thank you kindly for extending the invitation and taking the time to get to know me better.<\/span><\/p>\n My name is <\/span>Rick<\/b>, I\u2019m the<\/span> solo operator for Stake-Cardano-Pool<\/b>, but I prefer to go by my ticker name <\/span>RCADA<\/b>, which is a wordplay between ADA and the <\/span>retro <\/b>arcade<\/i><\/b> gaming scene<\/b> (where I spent much of my youth & pocket money 😉) and of course homage to the <\/span>Cypherpunk<\/b> era of the 80\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m <\/span>South African<\/b> born, the Afrikaans speaking variety and grew up in the Northeast part of the country, in a small town close to the<\/span> Kruger National Park<\/b>. Not sure if you have visited the country at all but would highly recommend it. After completing my degree in <\/span>Architecture, I decided to move to London in 2008 <\/b>to further my career.<\/span><\/p>\n Growing up so close to nature & wildlife I have a<\/span> great concern for the health of our natural environment<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n I also have a passion for <\/span>design, the culinary arts, flying, motorcycles, permaculture<\/b> & anything to do with <\/span>living off the grid<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n As a solo operator I\u2019m responsible for the<\/span> technical maintenance, marketing & social interactions<\/b> of my pool which can be quite challenging at times, but I\u2019m very excited to be a part of this <\/span>amazing community<\/b> and here to stay!<\/span><\/p>\n Well to answer your question, I\u2019d firstly like to elaborate a little on what <\/span>Permaculture<\/b> is all about.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cPermaculture aims to create systems that are ecologically-sound and economically viable, which provide for their own needs, do not exploit or pollute, and therefore are sustainable in the long term.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n Permaculture uses the inherent qualities of plants and animals combined with the natural characteristics of landscapes and structures to produce a life supporting system for residential dwellings or homesteads, cities and even a country, using the smallest practical area.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/i>Bill Mollison<\/span><\/p>\n These qualities and principles can be applied to all aspects of life and problem solving in general, not just explicitly to natural environments.<\/span><\/p>\n By the pursuit of these principles, <\/span>it was the overlapping core values & attributes of the Cardano ecosystem<\/b> that drew me in!<\/span><\/p>\n At the heart of the Cardano blockchain lies the <\/span>SPO, a guardian of truth and bearer of many hats<\/b>. This is where I knew I could bring about the most impactful change with my specific skill set. Although not being a developer by trade, I was committed to take on the challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n I picked up a copy of <\/span>\u201cThe Linux Command Line\u201c<\/b>, completed the <\/span>IOHK Stake Pool Operators course<\/b> and fired up a pool on the now \u201clegacy\u201d testnet in November 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n Shortly after I launched <\/span>RCADA Pool on the mainnet in March 2022!<\/b><\/p>\n I have also taken part in the Marlowe Pioneers programme and I\u2019m continuously delving deeper into the community and projects building on Cardano!<\/span><\/p>\n Of course this is only the beginning for me, my vision is to establish a <\/span>Cardano Educational Hub & permaculture farm<\/b> that integrates real world activities and commerce with the Cardano blockchain. This will leverage everything from <\/span>DID\u2019s, NFT\u2019s & DeFi & Lending dApps<\/b> to fulfil the core principles and values that drives permaculture and Cardano\u2019s ecosystem as a whole.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Climate Neutral Cardano is an alliance of stake pools dedicated to using 100% renewable energy for the operation of their stake pool servers<\/b>. RCADA Pool is an active member of this alliance, as such I also <\/span>donate a portion of my operator rewards to CNC<\/b> projects that help <\/span>protect our climate and the environment <\/b>which are very important to me.<\/span><\/p>\n CNC is working together with the Cardano community, institutions like the <\/span>Cardano Foundation<\/b> and<\/span> IOG<\/b>, and external parties like <\/span>Veritree<\/span><\/a> to <\/span>achieve a common goal of making Cardano the most eco-friendly blockchain platform<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n Currently our alliance is supporting the <\/span>CNC Ala project, a regenerative agriculture and reforestation project in Madagascar<\/b>. In short we are aiming to raise $300,000, or 600K \u20b3 (ADA) at the current market price, in order to <\/span>plant 100,000 fruit & nut trees<\/b>, including a variety of vegetable crops and other shade plants.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m also very excited to be a member of the upcoming <\/span>ISPO which will allow delegates to receive the CNC token on top of their regular ADA rewards<\/b>, all the while they are helping to make the world a better place.<\/span><\/p>\n As an added bonus, <\/span>delegates will also receive NFTs based on the amount of CNC tokens acquired during the ISPO <\/b>from four amazing NFT projects that have decided to support the CNC Ala project with unique and limited NFTs\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You may find out more about them here:<\/span><\/p>\n Cardano Proxies<\/b><\/a>,<\/span> Earth Natives<\/b><\/a>,<\/span> Madas Lemur<\/b><\/a> and<\/span> Yummi Universe<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n I\u2019m currently helping with the whitepaper <\/b>which will be made public very soon, but strongly encourage readers to visit the <\/span>CNC website<\/span><\/a> for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n I am also pleased to announce that I have recently taken on the role of <\/span>Marketing Lead<\/b> in the group for the <\/span>CNC Ala ISPO project <\/b>and look forward to building relationships and getting the wider community just as excited about <\/span>the impactful work we are doing<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n The Single Pool Alliance<\/span> consists of SPOs that have pledged to only ever operate a single pool <\/b>and not to create any additional (multi) pools once their pools have reached saturation.<\/span><\/p>\n Each member still strives to make their pool profitable. However,<\/span> once a respective stake pool reaches saturation, the pool\u2019s operator channels their efforts to fellow SPA pools to reach saturation.<\/b><\/p>\n This is crucial for maintaining<\/span> true decentralization<\/b> of the Cardano blockchain and one of the core pillars of crypto. Without it what are we doing here?<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m a proud member of the Single Pool Alliance and also the <\/span>xSPO Alliance<\/b>, which is an <\/span>alliance for extra small pools<\/b> who may join the alliance if they have <\/span>less than one million ADA delegated<\/b> to their pool at the time of application.<\/span><\/p>\n As an alliance we promote decentralization, help educate the community and support new SPOs with minting their first block<\/b>. A great example of this is the rotating delegation initiative whereby SPOs of the alliance set aside an allocation of ADA which they delegate to a specific pool on the list to help <\/span>increase their active stake and the chance of producing a block<\/b>. Every member gets a chance to receive the group\u2019s combined delegation as the list rotates.<\/span><\/p>\n Several pools have managed to <\/span>mint their first block this way<\/b> and this is also a fantastic way for the rest of the Cardano community to help support decentralization.<\/span><\/p>\n We have opened this to all delegates who wish to support small pools by <\/span>staking their ADA to whichever xSPO pool is currently in rotation<\/b>. By following along with the xSPO rotating delegation you could help support a <\/span>huge range of small SPOs, often mission driven & also building on Cardano<\/b>.
