Recently, Billy Markus, co-creator of the popular meme-inspired cryptocurrency Dogecoin<\/a>, went after members of the $DOGE community that have been attempting to \u201cruin\u201d the community from the inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dogecoin was initially\u00a0released<\/a>\u00a0on 6 December 2013, as a \u201cfun and friendly internet currency.\u201d It was created by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. It is\u00a0\u201ca decentralized, peer-to-peer digital currency\u201d that has as its mascot \u201cDoge\u201d, a\u00a0Shiba Inu (a Japanese breed of dog).<\/p>\n

Since then, its popularity has substantially increased, especially this year, mostly thanks to support by billionaires Elon Musk (the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX) and Mark Cuban, to the point that it is currently the 12th most valuable cryptocurrency, with a market cap of over $25.37 billion.<\/p>\n

In a tweet published on Tuesday (December 21), Markus vented his frustration with the behavior of a subset of the $DOGE community, saying their actions contributed to \u201ccounterproductive tendencies.\u201d <\/p>\n

Although Markus believes the majority of $DOGE are great, he lamented the behavior of those people who had managed to make their voices heard loudest amongst the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Markus\u2019s tweet was in response to a meme published by Twitter user \u201cJimjimmiejames\u201d who outlined the multitude of \u201c#dogecoin battles,\u201d and questioned whether it was even worth participating in the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Dogecoin has been slammed for a lack of real developments despite its meteoric price increase over the past year, Markus has been an active member in the crypto space and in late September he gave a list of ideas for how to improve $DOGE.<\/p>\n

Two things I believe would help Dogecoin:<\/p>\n

1) Completion of DOGE-ETH bridge
2) NFT platforms (e.g. Opensea) allowing for the DOGE-ETH token to be used for purchases<\/p>\n

NFTs purchasing is high demand with crypto. Allowing for DOGE purchases of NFTs greatly increases its utility.<\/p>\n
