The Ripple-SEC long-standing battle may have neared no end but its effect on its native cryptocurrency may now be worse. <\/span><\/p>\n After the last ruling where it seemed like the payment processing company was <\/span>progressing<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Ripple [XRP]<\/span><\/a> became the victim of an assault.<\/span><\/p>\n Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin led the attack on the cryptocurrency in what seemed like \u201cpayback time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n While applauding the <\/span>Ethereum [ETH]<\/span><\/a> community for resistance to regulation, Vitalik said the plight of Ripple was not to be supported and XRP should not be protected.<\/span><\/p>\n XRP already lost their right to protection when they tried to throw us under the bus as “China-controlled” imo:https:\/\/t.co\/t6cbMtjsEV<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) August 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The comment did not go well with the crypto community, especially on the XRP end. <\/span><\/p>\n However, Vitalik noted that he did not suddenly withdraw support for the coin but has been avoiding the sixth-ranked cryptocurrency since its parent company<\/span> called<\/span><\/a> ETH \u201cChina-controlled.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The event which happened in December 2020, seems not to have left the mind of the ETH founder.<\/span><\/p>\n Vitalik was not the only crypto head involved in the XRP smack. Initially, Bankless founder David Hoffman had taken a dig at the cryptocurrency. <\/span><\/p>\n While <\/span>questioning<\/span><\/a> Canada\u2019s recent regulation to set buy limits on Bitcoin [BTC]<\/a>, Ethereum [ETH], and other altcoins, Hoffman had said he wouldn\u2019t have bothered about the implications if it was just XRP. He further stated,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIf they had restricted XRP I wouldn\u2019t have said anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Interestingly, the back and forth did not end at Vitalik\u2019s rebuttal. Deaton Law Firm managing partner John Deaton, who is also a part of the XRP community, responded to Vialik\u2019s remarks. <\/span><\/p>\n He <\/span>noted<\/span><\/a> that neither XRP nor its 72,000 holders should take the fall for Ripple\u2019s misdeeds. <\/span><\/p>\n He added that whatever happened in 2020 was on the Ripple team led by its founder, Brad Garlinghouse.<\/span><\/p>\n With Ethereum preparing for its Merge, and Ripple hoping its case with the SEC closes soon, none of the cryptocurrencies seemed to have made much progress.<\/span><\/p>\n As for ETH price, it has decreased. As per CoinMarketCap, it had <\/span>dropped<\/span><\/a> 0.57% to trade at $1,856.81 at press time. <\/span><\/p>\n XRP, on the other hand, had <\/span>recorded<\/span><\/a> a 1.57% uptick, trading at $0.375. <\/span><\/p>\n\n
