However, the occasion turned bittersweet when internal investigations pointed out the involvement of a prominent team member, who goes by the pseudo name Gabagool.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 4, one of Velodrome\u2019s high-worth wallets \u2014 dedicated for operating funds such as salaries \u2014 was drained off $350,000 before it could be transferred to the company\u2019s treasury multisig wallet. A subsequent internal investigation revealed the attacker\u2019s identification, which allowed the company to recover the entire loot. Velodrome\u2019s official statement revealed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMuch to our disappointment, we learned the attacker was a fellow team member Gabagool.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While many community members came in support of the prominent coder, Gabagool owned up to the allegations made against him following Velodrome\u2019s investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">An update from Velodrome on our investigation into the team wallet exploit. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sz1ePStcT0\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/sz1ePStcT0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Velodrome (,) (@VelodromeFi) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VelodromeFi\/status\/1558499944562151425?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">August 13, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nearly six hours into the revelation, Gabagool released a note revealing various events that led him to attempt theft. Velodrome\u2019s biggest mistake was to give ownership of its wallet\u2019s private key to five individuals, which included Gabagool.<\/p>\n<p>Gabagool, just like many other investors, lost vast amounts of money during the 2022 crypto crash. In an attempt to recoup losses, Gabagool made the hasty decision of withdrawing $350,000 in various cryptocurrencies only to convert it to Ether (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/ethereum-price\" rel=\"noopener\">ETH<\/a>) and send it to Tornado Cash.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"975\" height=\"1453\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-08\/c214854e-3022-4b68-b3c9-9ff7cbb711fe.jfif\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Gabagool note owning up to Velodrome theft. Source: Twitter<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By the time Gabagool decided to return the stolen funds, Velodrome investigators \u201crevealed they had already discovered my involvement.\u201d He ended the note by stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNot much else to say. I\u2019m extremely stupid, incredibly disappointed in myself and (frankly) unsure about what next, legally speaking.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the other hand, Velodrome disclosed working with the legal counsel to determine the next steps. BlueBenx reportedly blocked all of its 22,000 users from withdrawing their funds following an alleged hack that drained $32 million.<\/p>\n<p>While no details about the hack were revealed, numerous investors raised eyebrows on the matter, with one stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think there&#8217;s a high probability of it being a scam because this whole hacker attack story seems like a lot of bullshit, something they invented.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The lack of trust among investors stems from the fact that numerous crypto platforms have recently halted funds withdrawal while hiding their incompetency in fulfilling the previously promised yield returns to the users.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/velodrome-recovers-350k-stolen-funds-from-team-member-gabagool\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Velodrome Finance, a trading and liquidity marketplace, announced the recovery of $350,000 stolen on Aug. 4.
