{"id":24830,"date":"2022-08-03T16:43:29","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T16:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=24830"},"modified":"2022-08-03T16:43:29","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T16:43:29","slug":"broad-ripple-neighborhood-works-to-curb-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=24830","title":{"rendered":"Broad Ripple neighborhood works to curb violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>Officers are working off-duty and overtime in Broad Ripple \u2014 but they need more help, including more security and daytime business.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>INDIANAPOLIS \u2014 Following <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wthr.com\/article\/news\/crime\/impd-investigates-multiple-sunday-morning-shootings-9-injured\/531-fc0804b2-4ec2-4195-81af-7f0b54d8b877\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent shootings in Broad Ripple<\/a> over the weekend, the Broad Ripple Village Association is discussing what it needs to help curb violence.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>IMPD said it does not have the data for Broad Cripple crime and whether crime has increased in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;We are hearing about it more, and it comes in waves, right?&#8221; said Jordan Dillon, executive director for the BRVA. &#8220;Obviously, if you compare this to 2020 or 2021, numbers were generally lower because we weren&#8217;t out as much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Dillon did a walk-along with IMPD Friday night. The neighborhood works with IMPD consistently, which has put in new cameras. Officers are working off-duty and overtime in this area. However, they need more help.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m trying to work with the Mayor&#8217;s Action Council as well to get our representative from there to get over here and try to help us with some resources and help us because I&#8217;m the only person at the BRVA, and there&#8217;s a ceiling to what we&#8217;re capable of doing,&#8221; Dillon said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><strong class=\"cms__embed-related-story\">RELATED: <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"cms__embed-related-story__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wthr.com\/article\/news\/crime\/impd-investigates-multiple-sunday-morning-shootings-9-injured\/531-fc0804b2-4ec2-4195-81af-7f0b54d8b877\" rel=\"noopener\">IMPD investigates multiple Sunday morning shootings; 10 injured<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>According to Dillon, loitering in area parking lots is a big problem, which then leads to crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;A lot of issues that we have right now are under-21-year-olds that are down here at night, Friday and Saturday night, hanging out in parking lots,&#8221; Dillon said. &#8220;There&#8217;s no restrictions or laws on what we can try to do to get rid of that. That&#8217;s one issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_embed\">\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"4 people shot in Broad Ripple\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iuf9VPfprO0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Dillon is urging businesses to hire security to monitor parking lots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;A lot of our parking lots, our businesses or our companies who own parking lots in the area, we&#8217;re asking them to make sure they have them monitored with security at night and\/or requiring people to pay to use those lots,&#8221; Dillon said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Dillon told 13News the lot in Broad Ripple Station was closed the final weekend of July 2022. According to IMPD, this happens at the discretion of supervisors at the scene to protect pedestrians and prevent people from driving around Broad Ripple.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Another issue, according to Dillon, are sound ordinances from vehicles and businesses.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Dillon said the BRVA is seeing more daytime businesses and office traffic beginning to come into Broad Ripple.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;We want more of that daytime business, so our bars and restaurants don&#8217;t feel like they have to stay open until 3 a.m. just to be able to pay their rent,&#8221; Dillon said. &#8220;They could close at midnight if they want to and still be able to make the great revenue that they&#8217;re making right now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>If you witness a crime or have video, Dillon urges you to go directly to IMPD.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#013;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"tgnaNewNode\">What other people are reading:\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wthr.com\/article\/news\/crime\/broad-ripple-neighborhood-asks-city-for-help-in-response-to-crime-violence-shootings\/531-e49d227b-ea68-427c-8f53-e2269a6ecafb\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officers are working off-duty and overtime in Broad Ripple \u2014 but they need more help, including more security and daytime business.
