{"id":23587,"date":"2022-07-22T03:43:01","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T03:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=23587"},"modified":"2022-07-22T03:43:01","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T03:43:01","slug":"dayton-area-landlord-renter-feeling-ripple-effects-of-national-rent-increases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=23587","title":{"rendered":"Dayton area landlord, renter feeling ripple effects of national rent increases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A landlord who is an Oakwood resident is feeling frustrated for her mother, whose recent increase in rent is steeper than those being reported in Cincinnati, where there have been the highest increases of any market in the country over the past year, real estate company Redfin reports.<\/p>\n<p><b>&gt;&gt; <\/b><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whio.com\/news\/local\/fractured-huber-heights-city-council-sidelines-search-city-manager\/J7TKOFLC6BCQLFIX52HHQ2OBRU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ylk=\"slk:Huber Heights City Council isn\u2019t looking for a city manager these days\" class=\"link \"><b>Huber Heights City Council isn\u2019t looking for a city manager these days<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kim Parrillo only charged her tenants more to reflect the increases in her own tax bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s expected,\u201d she told News Center 7\u2032s James Rider on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>But Parrillo said the rent her mother pays increased by $400 last month.<\/p>\n<p>The rent Parrillo\u2019s mother must pay is well below the 39 percent rise in Cincinnati, and nowhere near the 14 percent rents went up nationally year over year, according to Redfin research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t sleep at night for her,\u201d Parrillo said. \u201cShe\u2019s been hysterical, crying every day. I don\u2019t know what to do for her. She\u2019s terrified because she can\u2019t really find anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parrillo said she doesn\u2019t understand why landlords are doing this, unless they\u2019re paying for utilities. Her mother pays the utility bills in the house she rents, not the landlord.<\/p>\n<p>Parrillo\u2019s mother declined an interview for this report because she fears retribution.<\/p>\n<p>Parrillo said her mother asked the landlord to make improvements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said no,\u201d Parrillo said her mother told her. \u201cShe\u2019s getting nothing in return for this $400 increase other than she gets to stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parrillo said part of her own frustration is that she knows her mother isn\u2019t the only person dealing with the kind of situation she\u2019s faced with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing illegal about him raising the rent but it certainly is immoral and unethical. I wouldn\u2019t do that for my renters.
