The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/ethereum-vs-bitcoin\/\" rel=\"noopener\">two largest cryptocurrencies<\/a> seem to be hovering around their current price levels with no clear direction in sight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point, $19,000 to $20,000 is quite simply prior highs from the last major bull market in 2017,\u201d says St\u00e9phane Ouellette, CFA and founder of FRNT Financial, an institutional capital markets and advisory platform focused on digital assets. In other words, it\u2019s difficult to predict what happens next and when. \u201cThe bitcoin and ethereum futures curves are completely flat, implying that the market is also entirely uncertain of future direction,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the crypto market remains <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/bitcoin-ethereum-prices-drop-crypto-winter-inflation\/\" rel=\"noopener\">under intense pressure<\/a>, with the possibility looming of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/eth-btc-prices-to-fall-further\/\" rel=\"noopener\">another downturn<\/a>. How low <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/bitcoin-price-predictions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">bitcoin<\/a> goes in the coming weeks or months will depend on \u201cwhether the stock market made a bottom and if no major crypto company falls into liquidation,\u201d according to Edward Moya, a senior market analyst at OANDA, a brokerage firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA plethora of bearish crypto headlines continues to drag down bitcoin below key technical levels. Sentiment will take some time to improve, especially after many anticipated crypto deals are falling apart,\u201d says Moya, referring to crypto exchange eToro <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/etoro-spac-deal-public-listing-134928209.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abandoning a deal<\/a> to go public via SPAC merger, while many troubled companies like BlockFi and Voyager are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/3ba3cfbb-25f2-4038-af91-64e160bb0783\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scrambling for deals<\/a> to stay afloat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s Happening With Crypto Prices and What Does It Mean for Investors?<\/h2>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/bitcoin-crash-continues\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin<\/a> on Wednesday was up nearly 2.5% in the last 24 hours, trading near $20,000. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/ethereum-price-predictions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum\u2019s price<\/a> held steady near $1,100, up 3% in the last 24 hours. Though the two largest cryptos have experienced a small rebound in the last day, experts say we\u2019re not out of the danger zone yet.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/ethereum-hits-new-all-time-high-price\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ethereum<\/a> have lost more than two-thirds of their value since last November, and experts predict crypto prices <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/bitcoin-ethereum-prices-drop-can-go-lower\/\" rel=\"noopener\">could drop even further<\/a> now that bitcoin\u2019s price has dipped below $20,000 several times in recent weeks. On top of that, investors are still feeling uncertainty about the current economic conditions like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/in-the-news\/rising-inflation-rising-prices-how-to-plan\/\" rel=\"noopener\">surging inflation<\/a>, a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/five-biggest-market-crashes\/\" rel=\"noopener\">potential recession<\/a> in the U.S., rising interest rates, and a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/latest-stock-market-news\/\" rel=\"noopener\">shaky stock market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBitcoin is stuck in its current trading range because of the \u2018nervousness\u2019 of market participants,\u201d says Joshua Fernando, CEO of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecarbon.org\/team\">eCarbon<\/a>. \u201cThey have seen wild fluctuations in the past few months that have devastated the market, so it is reasonable that they are now trading cautiously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin Hiesboeck, head of blockchain and crypto research at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/uphold.com\/en-us\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uphold<\/a>, says bitcoin is not moving much below or above the $20,000 level because of \u201clack of stimuli.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt that the market is waiting for macroeconomic news and less tension in geopolitical matters \u2014 with the war in Ukraine, the specter of inflation, and possible recession being by far the biggest worries,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, what should crypto investors do in light of this? Nothing, experts say. If you\u2019ve invested in crypto for the long-term using a buy-and-hold strategy, price swings are to be expected and big dips are nothing to be overly worried about.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Experts recommend keeping your cryptocurrency investments to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/cryptocurrency\/how-much-your-portfolio-should-be-crypto\/\" rel=\"noopener\">under 5% of your portfolio<\/a>, as long as your crypto investments don\u2019t stand in the way of your other financial goals. Always prioritize <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/banking\/savings\/emergency-fund\/\" rel=\"noopener\">saving for an emergency<\/a>, paying off <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/credit-cards\/paying-off-debt-for-good\/\" rel=\"noopener\">high-interest debt<\/a>, and contributing to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/nextadvisor\/investing\/retirement\/what-is-a-401k-plan\/\" rel=\"noopener\">traditional retirement plan<\/a> before ever investing in crypto.
