Imagine if you had bought ETH at its initial coin offering (ICO) for 31 cents or $.31.<\/strong> Your $100 investment would now be worth $351,500<\/strong>, and if you think you \u201cmissed the boat,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> you haven\u2019t been paying attention.<\/p>\n

As remarked in their article, Bitcoin Bear Markets: We\u2019ve Been Here Before<\/em><\/a>, \u201cFrom peak to trough, we\u2019ve seen a <\/em>75% drop from $69,000 to around $17,600<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/strong> We\u2019ve seen a \u2018crypto contagion\u2019 of sorts, with the blow-up of the <\/em>Luna\/UST ponzi<\/em><\/a>, the <\/em>liquidation of Three Arrows Capital (3AC)<\/em><\/a>, and other \u2018crypto\u2019 market participants undergoing stress, such as <\/em>Celsius stopping withdrawals<\/em><\/a> and other entities having exposure to 3AC (e.g., <\/em>Voyager<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>BlockFi<\/em><\/a>).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Please, \u201cdon\u2019t shoot the messenger.\u201d<\/em> I would not call the LUNA\/UST disaster a \u201cPonzi,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> more of a mistake in calculating the power of \u201ccrypto burning.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

However, some crypto exchanges and financial service companies need to ask themselves the wisdom of loaning hundreds of millions of dollars of their clients\u2019 money to 3AC.<\/p>\n

Many of these CEOs were blinded by the hype and gave in to the greed. Hopefully, the 3AC default will help educate these financial managers and they\u2019ll make better decisions for their clients going forward.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, some won\u2019t have that option, Voyager Digital might be forced to sell<\/a> for pennies on the dollar if they can\u2019t right the ship after lending 3AC $670 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cBurning is a term used in cryptocurrency to describe taking a certain amount of tokens out of circulation to increase the value of the existing tokens already in circulation<\/strong>.\u201d \u2014 <\/em>Outlook India<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What Is ETH?<\/h2>\n

The ETH cryptocurrency was created to make payments between people without going through banks or other third parties. The Ethereum White Paper was released by Vitalik Buterin<\/a> in 2013.<\/p>\n

He is a Canadian-born Russian programmer and writer. He was one of Ethereum\u2019s co-founders and co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine but has since moved on to other crypto projects. He tweeted on 20 May \u201922, \u201cI\u2019m not a billionaire anymore.<\/strong>\u201d Though I, for one, believe that is only temporary.<\/p>\n

Actually, ETH or Ether is the native or working currency for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). It rewards workers who verify ledgers and is used to pay fees for coins and transactions on the ETH platform.<\/p>\n

It is a \u201cfork\u201d from the original ETH chain after a DAO smart contract allowed a 3.5 coin theft in 2016.<\/p>\n

Stakeholders approved a reversal of the theft, which created a hard fork and permitted Ethereum Classic to continue.<\/p>\n

Most ERC tokens use the Ethereum ecosystem for smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps). <\/p>\n

Crypto, especially ETH, currently the #2 crypto <\/strong>according to Coin Market Cap, could be suitable buy-and-hold investments because it can provide a return on investment (ROI) over long periods due to its high volatility compared to traditional assets.<\/p>\n

Crypto bull markets (usually started by the BTC halving schedule) last far longer than bear markets. The next BTC \u201chalving\u201d is scheduled in 2024<\/a>, so if you consider that, we will likely have two years or more of \u201ccrypto winter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Decentralized finance (DeFi)<\/a> are applications running on the blockchain that don\u2019t require any centralized power or oversight. There are other ways that DeFi and blockchain<\/a> can be used in the world of finance.<\/p>\n

Proof of Work (POW)<\/a> requires miners to solve complex mathematical complications to prove transactions. In contrast, Proof of Stake (POS)<\/a> requires users to deposit money into the system and have it staked by others in exchange for a percentage of block rewards.<\/p>\n

\u201cStaking cryptocurrencies is a process that involves committing your crypto assets to support a blockchain network and confirm transactions.<\/strong> It\u2019s available with cryptocurrencies that use the proof-of-stake model to process payments. However, some IRAs accept altcoins, such as ETH, ADA, SOL, and others. For instance, they rate Regal Assets<\/a> as the \u201cBest Variety of Cryptocurrency Supported.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Plus, initiating an IRA separate from your employer-supported IRA will help you diversify your retirement savings and holdings.<\/p>\n

There are limitations and restrictions, so it is advisable to consult a financial planner or income tax advisor.<\/p>\n
