As public scrutiny increases, companies exploring blockchain or crypto solutions are feeling the pressure to go green. In this aspect, Ripple\u2019s XRP Ledger [XRPL] has been favored by several noteworthy partners.<\/p>\n

Xange.com, a securities exchange collaborating with the UN Development System [UNDS] announced<\/a> it was working on a Carbon Credit Solution, on the XRP Ledger.\u00a0The press release by\u00a0Xange.com stated<\/a>,<\/p>\n \u201cThe XRP Ledger was built with sustainability in mind and is one of the first major carbon neutral blockchains. Are XRPL and XRP really the greenest choices for future partners who want to focus on sustainability?<\/p>\n According to the XRP Ledger, one XRP transaction consumes<\/a> about 0.0079\u00a0kWh<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>To compare<\/a>, a single transaction on Solana reportedly consumes about 0.00051 kWh of energy. This is more than a 10x difference<\/a> between the two blockchains.<\/p>\n Even so, it\u2019s vital to note that Solana is yet to formally achieve a carbon-neutral status<\/a>. According to reports<\/a>, this could happen in 2022.<\/p>\n On the flip side, it\u2019s clear that even high-profile partners trust Ripple. The blockchain company\u2019s partnerships with the central banks and governments of Bhutan and Palau to develop CBDCs for these countries are examples of this. In fact, Ripple reported,<\/p>\n \u201cAs an established leader<\/a> in the global climate debate, Palau chose Ripple because of its extensive experience in blockchain and building global payment systems, and the XRP Ledger because it\u2019s carbon-neutral and 120,000x more energy-efficient than proof-of-work blockchains.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Now, with the Xange.com partnership \u2013 which aims to support the UN\u2019s sustainable<\/a> development goals \u2013 Ripple can put another feather in its environmental cap.<\/p>\n At Consensus 2021, Bank of Mauritius Governor Harvesh Seegolam said<\/a> that the country would launch a CBDC to \u00a0boost the monetary system, and solve existing issues.<\/p>\n While the CBDC was reportedly slated for a launch<\/a> around this time of year, there has been little information on the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
