{"id":17842,"date":"2022-05-25T07:48:13","date_gmt":"2022-05-25T07:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=17842"},"modified":"2022-05-25T07:48:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-25T07:48:13","slug":"openethereum-support-ends-with-the-merge-fast-approaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=17842","title":{"rendered":"OpenEthereum support ends with the Merge fast approaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMDUvOWJjMzVlYWQtM2YwZS00N2I3LWEyOTktZjY1ZTQzODM4OGMwLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-v-2a0745c6=\"\">\n<p>One of the most popular Ethereum (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/ethereum-price\" rel=\"noopener\">ETH<\/a>) clients, OpenEthereum has ended support for its software in preparation for the upcoming Ethereum Merge. <\/p>\n<p>OpenEthereum creates \u201cclients\u201d or software used to interact with the Ethereum network allowing anyone to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/cloudflare-to-run-ethereum-node-experiment-to-help-build-a-better-internet\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/cloudflare-to-run-ethereum-node-experiment-to-help-build-a-better-internet\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">create an Ethereum node<\/a> to mine the cryptocurrency which is currently using a proof-of-work (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/explained\/proof-of-work-explained\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/explained\/proof-of-work-explained\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">PoW<\/a>) consensus mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>In a Twitter <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpenEthereumOrg\/status\/1529147048758595585?s=20&amp;t=qZmw6XVPp5ZOHvbYdae36g\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">thread<\/a> the OpenEthereum team explained that with the Merge approaching and the legacy codebase becoming \u201cincreasingly difficult to manage\u201d due to its age that it was the right time to end support.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"> OpenEthereum support has officially ended.<\/p>\n<p>The repo is now archived, and all maintenance and updates have stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Why?
