As an early Bitcoin (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a>) adopter, since its $200 days, Salinas has experienced first-hand the highs and lows of the market, and learned a thing or two along the way.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How the third richest man in Mexico fell for Bitcoin | Interview with Ricardo Salinas\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L5GgOc8ZPDE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Salinas started off the day as a panelist at the main stage of the Miami Beach Convention Center among fellow billionaires\u00a0Orlando Bravo, Marcelo Claure and Dan Tapiero. In a discussion titled &#8220;Bitcoin Billionaire Capital Allocators,&#8221; Salinas disclosed that 60% of his portfolio is in Bitcoin, while the other 40% is a mix of oil and gas investments.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-04\/e4807930-3c56-4982-8c9e-22799a07bd28.JPG\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>From left, moderator Greg Foss, Marcelo Claure, Ricardo Salinas, Dan Tapiero and\u00a0Orlando Bravo.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That same day, April 7, fellow conference attendee Mexican senator Indira Kempis announced that she\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/samson-mow-introduces-new-nation-state-adoption-for-crypto-in-bitcoin-2022\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/samson-mow-introduces-new-nation-state-adoption-for-crypto-in-bitcoin-2022\/amp\" rel=\"noopener\">proposed legislation to make Bitcoin legal tender in Mexico<\/a>. Mexico would follow El Salvador,\u00a0Roat\u00e1n, Honduras and Madeira, Portugal if it does go through with the legislation. When asked what he thought about this, Salinas said it&#8217;s &#8220;going to be an uphill battle&#8221; to make this happen because his country &#8220;unfortunately&#8221; has a mindset that is too attached to its control over fiat, or what he calls &#8220;fiat fraud.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The powers at the central bank and ministry of finance hate Bitcoin because of the freedom it represents and it&#8217;s a direct threat to their monopoly money.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As the founder of the Mexican bank, Banco Azteca, Salinas admits he&#8217;s part of a problematic system and reveals that he&#8217;d love for his bank to have access to bitcoin payments, deposits and lending.
