The massive social network dropped its Reddit Recap 2021<\/a> this week, which rounds up the most popular posts, topics and conversations on its platform over the past year. And cryptocurrency was hands down the most popular topic on Reddit in 2021, with people mentioning \u201ccrypto\u201d 6.6 million times. There are also more than 500 cryptocurrency communities on Reddit, and the five most popular ones this year were\u00a0r\/dogecoin<\/a>,\u00a0r\/superstonk<\/a>,\u00a0r\/cryptocurrency<\/a>,\u00a0r\/amcstock<\/a>, and\u00a0r\/bitcoin<\/a>. <\/p>\n Cryptocurrencies including Dogecoin Read more:<\/strong> Google\u2019s 2021 Year in Search: AMC and GME stocks, Dogecoin, stimulus checks and shortages dominated queries<\/a><\/p>\n Whats\u2019s more, a recent Rover.com<\/a> survey found that\u00a0pet owners are actually naming their dogs \u201cDoge\u201d and their cats \u201cBitcoin.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n And a group of crypto investors named ConstitutionDAO tried making history last month by crowdfunding more than $40 million to bid on a rare copy of the U.S. Constitution<\/a>. Alas, it lost out to Citadel founder Ken Griffin<\/a>, who spent $43.2 million on the historic document.\u00a0<\/p>\n Reddit notes that the rise of these retail and crypto investors looking to game the system has had real-world impact, such as the GameStop Want intel on all the news moving markets each day?<\/strong>\u00a0Sign up for our daily Need to Know newsletter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cFrom\u00a0r\/wallstreetbets<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0crash of the One Simple Wish website<\/a>, to the\u00a0Battle of the Joshes<\/a>, in 2021, the most notable moments on Reddit were when redditors took their comments, comradery, conversations, and more from URL to IRL,\u201d Reddit staff wrote in a blog post.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n Reddit\u2019s year-end review notes that users created 366 million posts over the past year, which was a 19% increase year over year.
