{"id":12274,"date":"2022-03-30T17:37:41","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T17:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=12274"},"modified":"2022-03-30T17:37:41","modified_gmt":"2022-03-30T17:37:41","slug":"i-lost-500000-in-cryptocurrency-after-trader-died-with-password","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/egrowonline.com\/?p=12274","title":{"rendered":"I lost $500,000 in cryptocurrency after \u2018trader died with password\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A 33-year-old man lost his life savings after getting involved with a cryptocurrency trader who died, taking the password to access funds to the grave.<\/p>\n<p>Tong Zou is one of thousands of customers left seriously out of pocket following\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/news\/8640258\/crypto-king-gerry-cotten-netflix\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gerald \u2018Gerry\u2019 Cotten<\/a>\u2018s mysterious death in 2018 at the age of 30.<\/p>\n<p>Zou trusted Quadriga CX, Canada\u2019s largest cryptocurrency exchange, with C$500,000.<\/p>\n<p>A big chunk of it was given to him by his parents.<\/p>\n<p>But when co-founder Cotten died during a honeymoon in\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/india\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">India<\/a>, the money was seemingly lost forever.<\/p>\n<p>The shocking story has been recounted in a new Netflix documentary, Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just makes me more depressed about it,\u201d Zou told\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/man-lost-500-000-life-savings-in-crypto-exchange-scam-after-trader-died-with-password-to-funds-12577397\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sky News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could have invested it in real estate. I could have put it in stocks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, nothing\u2019s been found. I just prayed. I really prayed it wasn\u2019t a scam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents were worried about it too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt that time, there was nothing I could do.
