The coin was enjoying a 4% lift as of late this afternoon, a rate that topped the effectively sideways-moving <strong>Bitcoin<\/strong> <span class=\"font-bold whitespace-nowrap\" data-id=\"343539\">( <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"ticker-symbol\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/quote\/crypto\/btc\/\" rel=\"noopener\">BTC<\/a><span class=\"text-green-900 ticker-change\"> 1.20%<\/span> )<\/span> and <strong>Ethereum<\/strong>, plus the slight rise of its rival meme token <strong>Shiba Inu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>So what<\/h2>\n<p>Dogecoin&#8217;s upward move seems to be tied to its sudden appearance in ATMs. Wednesday morning, privately held fintech company Bitcoin of America announced that the token had been added to its Bitcoin ATMs (or BTMs, as the company likes to abbreviate them).<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Happy person holding shopping bags while using an ATM.\" src=\"https:\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/image\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fg.foolcdn.com%2Feditorial%2Fimages%2F671678%2Fgettyimages-1286561620.jpg&amp;w=700&amp;op=resize\" srcset=\"https:\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/image\/?url=https%3A\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/editorial\/images\/671678\/gettyimages-1286561620.jpg&amp;w=300&amp;op=resize 300w, https:\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/image\/?url=https%3A\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/editorial\/images\/671678\/gettyimages-1286561620.jpg&amp;w=1000&amp;op=resize 1000w, https:\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/image\/?url=https%3A\/\/g.foolcdn.com\/editorial\/images\/671678\/gettyimages-1286561620.jpg&amp;w=2000&amp;op=resize 2000w\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Image source: Getty Images.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While this doesn&#8217;t exactly make Dogecoin an instant star utility currency, it does significantly ramp up access to the token. Bitcoin of America says it has installed over 1,800 BTMs throughout this country, covering 31 states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As their name implies, those machines also offer transactions in Bitcoin. Ethereum and <strong>Litecoin<\/strong> are also accessible through the devices.<\/p>\n<p>The current-generation Bitcoin of America BTMs are called &#8220;universal kiosks&#8221; by the company. These allow for traditional ATM transactions through a customer&#8217;s debit card. In the crypto sphere, users can buy or sell the offered cryptocurrencies for cash.<\/p>\n<h2>Now what<\/h2>\n<p>While inclusion as an option in the Bitcoin of America <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/stock-market\/market-sectors\/financials\/cryptocurrency-stocks\/guide-to-cryptocurrencies\/\" rel=\"noopener\">cryptocurrency<\/a> machines can&#8217;t be considered a major breakthrough for Dogecoin, it&#8217;s certainly a win. Any move that expands access to a cryptocurrency is beneficial for that coin.
